pricing items by weight

Since this is your slow time, and I'm sure you are looking for things to keep you busy :), I wanted to ask for an upgrade to the order form. We sell mostly meat and cheese, which is priced by the pound, rather than by the item. Is it possible to add some flexibility to the website to enter an actual weight? We currently use an estimated weight, and then have to change the price when we sell an item and have the actual weight. It would be much more convenient to be able to have the price per pound entered, and just enter the actual weight. Also, we are using the store for shipping, and mostly shipping via FedEx. Will the FedEx rate calculator ever work with SFC? Thanks,

    Hi Rebecca:

We've talked with various farms over the years about ways that we might be able to create a better system for items sold per pound that weren't sold in exact ounce or pound interval weights.

The 2 systems that make the most sense are:

    1) The system you currently using where you put the item up at a "target" weight and cost and adjust accordingly when packing the specific cuts.

    2) The other option would be to pre-weigh specific cuts and add inventory for each cut and enter the specific price for each so the customer can decide if they want the 1.9 lb or the 2.2 lb cut and pay accordingly.

The first has a bit more work on the packing side and the second has more work on the front end. We haven't had any ideas that made sense and that would be functionally easy to implement that solved this problem.

As for the FedEx shipping calculator, it is currently not something we are supporting. They made some changes so their previous calculator no longer works with our software and unfortunately the demand for this feature is low, so i'm not sure when this feature will be re-added.
