Simon,

It appears that our existing customers are unable to use a coupon for a
membership update......is that correct? I had hoped to be able to give
them a customized coupon as a workaround for not having prorations, but
there doesn't seem to be a place to enter a coupon. Short of using a
different email address, is there a way that our existing customers can use
the regular signup so they can receive the prorations and/or use a coupon?

    Robin,

Coupons are not valid on membership updates.

I can see two things you could do:

    1. Create new member types that reflected the proration, ie:
Egg Share starting 3rd week of august, $200 (with prorated price)

    Then let people choose that.

    2. Have people email you and have you add the member types manually.

    Hope this helps.

If I add the member types manually, will that (or can it) generate an
amount to pay? And how do I let them know that?

    Thanks!

They would then have a balance in your system and you could use "Payment Request" to send them an invoice that they could pay.

Let me know if you need more detailed help with that.

    Thanks,
    Simon
