Payment reminder emails - Dwolla

Hey there Member Assemblers! This is Sam and Linda from Tempel Farms Organics. We were curious, if a member has selected "Invoice" or "Dwolla" as their payment option, when we send them a payment reminder email (after removing the credit card payment variable from the email template) will they be given the option to pay with Dwolla in their email? I'm assuming if they chose Dwolla to begin with, a link to make a Dwolla payment will be included in the payment reminder email (although, would we have to insert a variable for that?) If a member has chosen "invoice only" will they have the option to pay with Dwolla when they receive their first payment reminder?

    Hi Sam and Linda:

If you do a payment request and have an online payment option turning on in your checkout settings, then the payment request should automatically add the code for the online payment link

"Click the following link to pay online with your credit card: %%cc-payment-url%%"

This will show whatever online payments you currently have available. So if you turn off Paypal but leave Dwolla available, it should only show Dwolla (and conversely, if you leave Paypal turned on, it will show that option as well). It will give these options to all members regardless of how they initially paid.

    Hope that clears things up.

Thanks Q. So we were wondering, if someone chose invoice-only to begin with, then upon receiving their first payment reminder, they chose "pay with paypal" would they effectively be dodging the 3% transaction fee we set up, or would it be reflected in their balance?

Correct. The online transaction fee only runs at checkout, so if someone chooses invoice/Dwolla at checkout they won't be charged the fee at checkout. If they choose Paypal during a later payment they still would not automatically get charged the fee.

If someone chooses to pay via Paypal after having previously chosen Dwolla/invoice, you can manually add a charge to their account, but it won't happen automatically.

If you leave Paypal open as an option, I would recommend making a note in your payment request that warns people not to use Paypal unless they previously chose that at checkout.
