We have set up charges to assess tax depending on the
customer's type choices and pickup location. This works when they sign up
through the web page, but when I go in an manually to give an existing
customer a new type, it does not automatically add on the charge. Is this
correct?

    Jonathan,

You are correct. Your charges will only automatically apply when your members sign up through your website or if you manually add a new membership in the Control Panel. The charges will not automatically be applied if you modify the membership type of a preexisting membership. The same is also true if you enable your members to make changes to their own membership; the charges will not be automatically applied.

What you can do is add charges manually by adjusting the member's invoice. Our help article on member invoices goes over how this is done.

Please let me know if you need any additional help with this.

Okay, another question. Since I am adding member types and manual charges
to an existing membership (I didn't know about the update option, but it
wouldn't really have helped if I would have had to go back in and add all
the charges), is there a way to send one of these people a full invoice?
That is, not just their balance, but a full itemized invoice.

    Hi Jonathon,

On their "member detail" page.. that's the page with all the tabs about a specific membership.. there is a link that says "Manually send confirmation email." -- that will send the confirmation email just as if they signed up on the public side.

    Hope this helps!

Right. I only saw the Send Status EMail To All Contacts button. Sorry.

But now when I do send the status email, in order to give them the option
of paying by PayPal, when I go to the link, it gives me the option to pay
in full, or a half. But I only want the full option. I believe I have
checked the No downpayment. Full fee due at checkout. button in the
Member Assembler/Configure/Checkout screen, but it still gives me this
option. Is there some other configuration I should be setting?

This is not the 'checkout' page. It is simply allowing people to pay and
offers different options. Maybe you should be pushing people through the
sign up process so they are forced to do the normal checkout options?

I thought about this a bit and realized you should be using payment request to request a specific amount from a membership or a group of memberships:
Member Assembler / accounting / payment request

    Hope this helps!

You are correct, the Payment Request link only gives the full amount choice
to PayPal, whereas the Status link gives both the full and half payment
links to PayPal. So that is fine. But I noticed that when I manually send
the confirmation email, any amounts that I added to the invoice manually
(which I have to do when I add types to an existing membership in order to
add the tax) the amount is not on the email confirmation invoice. The
total reflects the amount, but there is no line in the email.

Here is the confirmation email for my own test membership and you'll see
that the amounts don't add up. I added a test amount of $20 for which
there is no line in the invoice, but it is included in the $357.30.

So I can't send these to our customers because the numbers don't add up.

    Hi Jonathon,

I'll have Mike look into this issue and get back to you with updates. It may take a couple of weeks, but we should we able to fix that.

    Thanks,
    Simon.

    Hi Jonathan,

I have a fix in for this issue which should be rolled out in the next week or so. I'm interested in the genesis of finding this bug, actually, and wondered if you'd like to talk about the process you are using to sign people up -- ie doing their signups manually through the admin, making manual adjustments, and then emailing them the confirmations.

We might have some tools available that will save you some time and effort.

    Mike

I'd love to talk about this, this is not my preferred way of doing things
    either. Can I call you?

And is that really your email address?
