Make member types exclusive

Hello,

First of all, thanks so much for being so incredible prompt with your support. It is greatly appreciated!

My next question involves member types. Is there a way that, if a member chooses one member type, it means they *cannot* chose another type? i.e. they are exclusive to each other?

Amanda

    Hi there Amanda,

    You're welcome, happy to help!

What exactly are you trying to set up? Perhaps if you give some more context, I can better answer your question.

The short answer is no, there is no way to limit Member Types in this way. The only way to do something similar would be for the two (or more)"types" to be "options" under a single type. I don't know if that will work for your situation but I thought I'd throw it out there in case.

We have two locations for our main pickups (with different pricing for
each). So I've created member types for each location, but I don't want
people to be able to pick BOTH locations.

We also included a member type which is the entire season, and we also
don't people people picking just the spring but then also the full season
    (which includes the spring).

So the options don't totally work in this case (I did use them for our size
    of share).

    I hope that makes sense,
    Amanda

    Hey Amanda,

    Yup, that does make sense.

It actually looks like you have this set up in the way that we'd recommend. Using the Member Type Dependencies tool, you have limited your Member Types to only the pick-ups that work for them. So, it will be impossible for someone to sign up for both member types because if they choose two types and try to proceed, they will get this error message:

"Sorry, there is no single pickup location that corresponds to all of your subscription options. Please change your choices by returning to the Membership Types selection by clicking here or click here to contact us."

The next step is to make is explicit in either your Member Type Description header (Member Assembler-->Configure-->Display Settings) or in your Member Type Descriptions themselves (Member Assembler-->Configure-->Member Types) that this is the case. Just make sure that you make it obvious so that you don't get too many surprised customers when this happens. I would think that there won't be too many people who will try to choose two types anyway.

Let us know what else we can help with!

    Best,

Yes, I know the pickups won't be a problem, but I concerned that people
(like me) who don't read everything might try to either chose "spring" and
"full", which you are able to do currently. I guess we hope that it doesn't
happen often, and if it does, we will have to manually update the correct
    selections.

    Just thought I'd ask.

    Thanks
    Amanda

    Hey there Amanda,

I'm pretty sure that there isn't a two share combination that will be able to go through. I just tried selecting "Spring" and "Full" and received the error message I mentioned before. Are you seeing something different?

This is due to the way you have pickup type dependencies configured at Member Assembler-->Configure-->Pickups then click on member type dependencies at the top.
